Javier Cadena founded Chino's Rock & Tacos July 3, 2006 in San Luis Obispo, California. The restaurant is a fusion of Javier's two passions, authentic Mexican food and Rock & Roll. As a third generation restaurateur, Javier is no stranger to the business. Javier's Grandfather, Javier Cadena, originally opened Maya Mexican Food Restaurants in Santa Barbara, February 1966. After an upbringing in the booths and kitchens of the family business, Javier decided to pursue a career as a musician. After seven years of touring, four years on the Warped Tour and a three month long nation-wide tour, Javier decided to put a new spin on an old family recipe and created Chino's Rock & Tacos (Chino's is a play on the word Chicano). Customers loved the concept and it was soon evident we needed to add more seats, more locations and grow the Chino's family.
